Dachshund Lovers of Texas is a 501(c) (3) non-profit, all-volunteer, foster based, no-kill rescue group for dachshunds. We are dedicated to the belief that helping pets helps people, and that any life is too precious to throw away when a bit of love can save it!

Dachshund Lovers of Texas is a small group of people who have a lifetime of devotion to dachshunds, as well as years of combined experience in animal rescue. We are an all-volunteer, non-profit organization- we're in it for the dogs, not the money!

Dachshund Lovers of Texas is strongly in support of spaying and neutering pets to cut down on the number of animals who have to be euthanized. All our adoptable dogs are spayed or neutered, and we require the same of the pets in the adopter's household.

We are a no-kill rescue program. Once the dogs are in our program, they are safe in their foster homes until they find an appropriate forever home. We do not euthanize the dachshunds to make room, or because they have been in the program a long time awaiting adoption.

Our organization is completely foster-based. All our dogs stay in foster homes alongside our own personal pets. That way we can work with them on social skills and good manners, see how they interact with both people and other dogs, and just generally get a good idea of their temperament. We feel that a foster-based rescue program offers a big advantage when it comes to really knowing the dogs, and predicting where they can most successfully be placed into a forever home.

Because we are foster-based, there is no shelter. We do not have regular hours, and we don't have a central location to come and visit. If you are interested in an adoptable dachshund, you will need to contact us to make arrangements.

We require an application for adoption to be submitted prior to the meeting. The purpose of the application process is to learn more about your needs so that any placement we make is likely to work out well for everyone. After all, not all the dogs get along well with other dogs, with young children, and so on. By applying first, you won't invest time and effort on an adoptable dog who wouldn't work out for your needs.

Dachshund Lovers of Texas also believes that those with special needs and senior citizens (people as well as dogs) benefit from a healthy, loving relationship between the owner and pet. We strive to accommodate a diversity of needs and ages in our pets as well as in those with whom they are placed.

Because we are all volunteers with full-time jobs other than dachshund rescue, it may take a while for us to respond to contact, but we will do our best to minimize any delay.
