Happy Endings

Ruby- In Loving Memory
Ruby came to us from an abusive owner.  Her nails were so long they had grown into the pads, and the connective tissue had so broken down that she could never walk without pain.  She was starving, scared, and had scarred, open places on her skin where she had been left to rest on hot surfaces with no shelter or shade.  In spite of all that, Ruby was a trusting and loving lady.  She smiled and wagged for us, and was always patient throughout her ongoing veterinary care. Ruby was adopted by a young family who, knowing that she had many medical difficulties and would never fully recover, chose to take her in and give her all their love.  Ruby gradually improved and had the pleasure of a comfy home, a caring family, and someone looking after all her medical needs.  Sadly, the damage had been done.  Ruby lived for an all-too-short period of time before all the childhood abuse caught up with her and she passed away.  At least she knew that there are people out there who do not betray trust, and who offer true unselfish love.  We miss Ruby dearly, and a special thank you goes out to her adopters.

Rudy
Rudy came to us having been paralyzed for about a year, and we've fostered him for a couple years since then. This week, Rudy was adopted by two wonderful people who already care for a paralyzed dog of their own.  When it was time to look for a new friend for their dog because his other had recently passed they insisted on finding another paralyzed Dachshund to care for. That's when Rudy became one lucky dog!  He now has a full-time friend and they can both scoot around the house together. Also, Rudy's wonderful adopters have used their experience caring for paralyzed pets to lead them to make some wonderful products that help the dogs scoot around the house without rubbing or abrading themselves as well as keeping things more sanitary. Please look on www.paralyzedpets.com to see the practical yet cute products available for dogs like Rudy.  It's great to know that there are others out there who find a paralyzed dog just as lovable as any other!

Shorty
The Short One was adopted when, on the day he made a home visit, he ran from the car directly into his new home and hasn't wanted to leave since!  Shorty is a great little guy and enjoys owning his human family.  Shorty later developed diabetes, and thanks to a great owner and his cooperative nature (as well as a few treats when he first started the treatment), Shorty is coping well with the shots. Shorty emails regularly (his owner translates and does the typing for him), and continues to thank everyone for finding him the perfect forever home!

Tigger
Tigger is one very lucky boy!  He was born with a twisted spine and "dumped" at a shelter by his former owner when he was just a puppy.  The animal control people couldn't help but love the little guy- he was always so happy and full of bouncy energy!  So... Tigger made it into our rescue program where he was a long-term foster.  We often thought Tigger would be a permanent foster, because it takes a very special person to adopt someone like Tigger.  Fortunately for him, Tigger was found by that person!  She fell in love at first site, and it was mutual.  TIgger bounced over to his new forever mother and hasn't left her side since.  It was as if they were made for each other.  The even more special part is that Tigger's adopter also has a partial disability with her back; they both need a little extra tender loving care!  It's great to see a special needs dog go to such a loving, special person.
