These are just some of the heartworm-positive dogs we work with in our rescue program. They, as well as others like them, came to us with heartworm through no fault of their own. Heartworm is easily preventable with the use of regular monthly preventatives, but once a dog has heartworm, treatment and recovery take a long time. Treatment is expensive, and is not easy on the dogs. They need your help!

Name: Emma
|
Emma is a sweet little girl who came to us very hungry, both for human loving and for food. She has since done very well in her foster home, gaining weight and feeling healthier all the time. Emma is heartworm positive and will need treatment following several months of preventative. She will then have to get over the stress of the procedure in order to be spayed. Only then can Emma truly be considered fully vetted and ready for adoption. Meanwhile, she has a wonderful attitude and waits patiently as she goes through the steps toward being healthy. |

Name: Gracie Gender: Female Age: 6 Years Old Coat: Red Smoothcoat |
Gracie is a cute, loving little lady who came to rescue so thin the folks at the shelter were not even sure she would survive. She was literally just skin and bones, but Gracie has such a strong spirit that she just kept going from day to day, gaining weight and strength. Through all this Gracie trusted her caretakers, and never once stopped wagging, cuddling, and wanting to be petted. Gracie looks great now, but she still has to go through her heartworm treatment. Like most girls her age who start out having had little or no preventative veterinary care, Gracie will be a long time getting ready for her treatment, then go through another delay afterward before she is ready for spay. She will then become ready for adoption. Gracie continues to be a loving, trusting little bundle of loving, depending on humans to do the right thing for her. |
